We are thrilled to announce that Kyle's blood cells have begun to regenerate on their own! Kyle was seeking a bone marrow donor for a transplant because his cells could not do this simple job on their own, requiring Kyle to have regular blood transfusions. While we have been searching for a donor match for Kyle, he has also been receiving immune suppression treatment of ATG during inpatient hospitalization and also taking cyclosporine medicine twice a day. Kyle's positive response to the medication is a surprise blessing as the odds of success are not well understood. Due to the severity of Kyle's condition it was critical that a donor be identified immediately in the likely event the medication did not work.

The fight is not over. Since his cells have been regenerating, for the next month or so, Kyle's doctors have placed a hold on his transplant to confirm that the medication will continue to work. If the medication does continue to work, there is still a significant chance for relapse in the next 2-10 years. In the case of relapse, Kyle will need an immediate transplant.

Since December when we started this campaign to save 4 year-old Kyle, there have been over 2,500 people of mixed ethnicity that have registered as bone marrow donors. You and the countless others have helped to save Kyle by: registering, hosting drives, donating time and money, sharing his story with all of your friends online and offline, and utilizing your creativity to help in numerous other ways.

We are also happy to announce that with your help, we've been blessed to find not one but two matches for Kyle!

Due to the transplant hold, these matches have not gone through the final processes involved with agreeing to become a donor. They will not be contacted until the transplant becomes necessary. This means one very important thing: registered donors should keep their contact information updated in the NMDP system. We would also like to continue the search should either of these matches not be available to donate in the future.
